Signs you need this
- Bats seen leaving the roofline, gable, or ridge at dusk
- Dark greasy staining around a gap, vent, or chimney flashing
- Accumulating droppings on siding, in the attic, or on a porch below an entry
- A sharp, musty ammonia odor building in an upstairs room
What the visit involves
- Watch the structure at dusk to find the true exit points
- Fit one-way devices so bats can leave but cannot get back in
- Seal every remaining gap — bats use openings smaller than a thumb
- Remove and treat guano accumulation, then remove the devices and close up
Common questions
Why can't the bats just be caught and taken away?
Bats are protected in most of the country and colonies cannot be trapped and relocated. Exclusion — letting them leave on their own and closing the opening — is the accepted and effective method.
Is there a time of year bat work cannot be done?
Yes. During the summer maternity period, flightless pups are in the roost and exclusion would seal them inside. Work is scheduled around that window; we will tell you the timing for your area when you call.
Do I need the guano cleaned up?
If it has accumulated, yes. Guano holds moisture, breaks down insulation, and supports mold growth. Small scattered amounts are less urgent than a concentrated pile under a roost.
